Health Hockey

  • When tying up skates, avoid wrapping laces around the ankle as this impedes the mobility of the ankle to perform the proper pushing motion when striding
  • Use a cotton towel to dry off skates after each class. Wipe blade in one continuous movement from the front of the skate to the back and then back to front. Repeat until blade is dry.
  • When storing hockey equipment after each class, bags should be left open and equipment spread out. Sweaty damp equipment that is not dried out leads to increased odor and equipment decay.
  • Always come to the rink well hydrated. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids prior to hockey session. If your class is during or right after a meal hour, eat a light meal to avoid cramping or fatigue while on the ice.
  • Hockey is physically demanding game, be sure to have fun while playing to make sure that all the hard work seems like play
