Skates should be laced tightly through the ankle area and looser the upper portion of the boot. For long laces, use a double knot rather than tying the laces around the ankle.
Once you have finished tightening you child’s slates, have them stand up and bend their knees. If the skate is tied firmly, yet comfortably, you should be able to fit one finger down the back of the skate boot.
When standing, your child’s feet and ankles should be completely vertical. If you observe the ankles to be bending either inwards outwards, tighten up the laces. If you still observe this to be happening after re-tying the laces, then check the skate boot for support around the ankle. If it’s easy to bend, then it’s time for new skates.
