Over the years, the “101” family of programs have earned the confidence of 1000’s of families across the GTA. From hockey to skating to golf the “101 name has established itself as a leader in instructional learning. Our philosophy of breaking complex skills into small, manageable elements, has evolved over the years into an innovative system for teaching sports to children.

SWIM 101 FEATURES include:

    Classes are conducted in small groups so that participants receive a high level of personal attention and truly gain the most from their class experience.

  • All programs are “kid centered”
    Motivational teaching tools and creative ideas set an environment that children can relate to and respond to.
  • Assessment & Orientation Sessions are offered prior to the start of all sessions
    Students will be assessed by our staff in the water to help determine the correct placement.

Family Lessons
This unique program allows family members (and/or friends) of different ages and levels to share one time slot and one instructor.

Backyard “Learn to Swim” Program
Let us come to you!! “Swim 101” would be pleased to send an experienced water safety Instructor to your home this summer. Lesson times can be arranged to meet your needs.

Advanced Certifications “Swim 101” is pleased to offer advanced certification programs to prepare swimmers for lifeguarding. Programs offered include; Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. Related First Aid and CPR components are also available.

Private & Semi-Private Lessons Looking for a customized program or just a little extra help with a skill? Book a “Swim 101” instructor for some one on one instruction. Private lessons can be scheduled at the swim school locations or in the privacy of your own pool. One on one instruction is available for all ages and levels.

SWIM 101 COMMITMENT

All “Swim 101” aquatic instructors are NLS (National LIfesaving Society) qualified. In addition, all staff are certified in First Aid and undergo extensive in-house training, ongoing supervision and evaluation. Staff are also hired for their experience, enthusiasm and ability to relate to children.

Requirements: Babies must be able to hold their head up

  • Orientation to water for babies and toddlers and their parent/caregiver.
  • The goals are to help babies and toddlers experience buoyancy and movement through songs and play in the water to teach parent/caregiver age specific water safety.
  • This level is participation-based only, without formal evaluation.

Swim 101 Preschool 1

3-5 years

Requirements: At least 3 years of age.

  • Transitional level that transfers the preschooler to care of the instructor.
  • Using games and activities, swimmers learn to open their eyes under water, further develop basic floats and glides and swim 1 metre.
  • Swimmers are evaluated on performance criteria.

Swim 101 Preschool 2

3-5 years

Requirements: Successfully completing Preschool 1

  • Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 2 metres, further develop basic floats and increase their distance front and back glide. Front swim and roll-over glides are also included, and swimmers learn appropriate water safety skills such as how to jump in chest deep water and how to use a Personal Floating Device (PFD)
  • Swimmers are evaluated on performance criteria.

Swim 101 Preschool 3

3-6 years

Requirements: Successfully completing Preschool 2

  • Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 5 metres, increase their distance using buoyant objects, increase their front and back glides with kick, and develop their roll over glide, side glide and front swim. Safety skills include deep-water skills and use a Personal Floating Device (PFD).
  • Swimmers are evaluated on performance criteria.

Swim 101 Preschool 4

3-6 years

Requirements: Successfully completing Preschool 3

  • Using games and activities, swimmers learn to swim 5 metres, increase their distance using buoyant objects, increase their front, back and side. They also progress with kicking drills to increase their swimming distance to 10 metres.
  • Safety skills include jumping into chest deep water skills and performing support for 10 seconds, recognizing when a swimmer needs help and using Personal Floating Device (PFD)
  • Swimmers are evaluated on performance criteria.

Swim 101 Preschool 5

3-6 years

Requirements: Successfully completing Preschool 4

  • Through fun activities, swimmers perform a front and back swim for 10 metres. Swimmers work on developing a flutter kick and perform a distance swim of 15 metres.
  • Safety skills include identifying safe swimming areas, jumping into deep water, surface support for 20 seconds, a return to safety, throwing assist and sitting dives.
  • Swimmers are evaluated on performance criteria.
